Updates Regarding Church Service, Building is Closed!

Tomorrow we enter a Holy Week unlike any we have ever experienced. My heart is full as I contemplate the deep lessons of Jesus’ death and resurrection, the themes of utter desolation and of new life.

The church building is closed for now. Those of you who have keys are asked not to use them. If any urgent need to enter the church should arise, please contact me or Glenn.

I hope you will join me tomorrow for worship via Facebook live from my home. The church has never been a building but I do take comfort in that building. It will be a new adventure to preach and lead worship sitting at my dining room table. We will not have communion together, though this is the first Sunday of the month. On Maundy Thursday we will have a remembrance of communion as a central part of the service.

Tomorrow’s scriptures are Psalm 118:1-2 and 19-29 and Matthew 21:1-11, Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. I will be preaching at sermon entitled, “A Protest March” using the Matthew text. Please find a branch of any kind you can wave during the children’s sermon, when we will sing the first verse of “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna.”

We now have a way to give online via PayPal. Use this link: PayPal.me/newhopecolumbus. You may also mail a check to New Hope Presbyterian Church, 4142 Weems Rd., Columbus, GA 31904. Thank you to those who continue to give.

Please be in touch with your prayer requests as well as letting us know of your material needs. I am in prayer for all of you and long to be with you again. I treasure conversations with you. Please call me.

May the peace that passes all understanding rule in your hearts and minds.

Notice Regarding Suspension of Service in Response to COVID-19

Beloved ones,
God’s messengers always seemed to preface good news with the exclamation, “Be not afraid!”. So friends, do not be afraid but please join me in the new adventure of being Christ’s body in these uncertain and unsettling times.

New Hope’s session met last night and decided that in an abundance of caution and care for our congregation and wider community, we would follow current recommendations to curtail public meetings by cancelling all in person worship and church meetings (Bible study, choir, etc) through at least the end of March. At that time the session will review extending that decision. For now the session will meet electronically.

We plan to make broadcasts of some sort available via Facebook Live, and Google Hangouts as well, that would reach even our members who do not have Facebook or computers. I will be doing a trial run of communicating with you via Facebook live tomorrow morning with information, prayer, and scripture. A more complete worship service experience should be available starting March 22nd. More information on this will follow.

We are in the process of forming care teams for each of our Stephen Ministers to be in regular contact with you. You will receive more information about that soon.
A group email will follow soon as well as information via snail mail.

It is vitally important to the work of our church that giving continue. You may mail your pledge/tithes/offerings to New Hope Presbyterian Church 4142 Weems Rd. Columbus, GA 31909 with checks made out to either All Saints or Morningside. PayPal information will be sent out soon. Salaries, bills, insurance, etc all must continue to be paid.

I am available by phone and email for pastoral care and practical problem solving. Brenda will be in the church office 9-12 Tues-Thurs.

Let us be creative. Let us be resilient. Let us be the community of love and caring God created us to be in this particular time and place. Reach out to each other. Share your anxieties as well as your encouragement. Let us turn to God, our very present help in trouble.

Love and peace to you all,
Colleen (Rev. Colleen Cook)
